2015 Shrimp Run 5K

March 14, 2015 @ 7:00 am - 12:00 pm

About This Activity

The Cypress Lake High School Athletic Booster Club has exciting news! In conjunction with the 57th annual Fort Myers Beach Lions Club Shrimp Festival, we are proud to announce the return of The Shrimp Run 5k, presented by Cypress Lake High School Athletic Booster Club and Cypress Lake High School. The “Shrimp Run” has historically been one of the most popular races in Southwest Florida. The festive 5k course takes you over the Matanzas Bridge twice while thousands of onlookers cheer runners on! The race starts at 9 am and precedes the ever-popular Shrimp Parade.

Event details and schedule

Beginning on Friday 3/13 from 10-5, Racers can pick up their race packets at The Cape Run Shop: 1407 Cape Coral Pkwy E, Cape Coral, FL 33904
(239) 540-9529. I’d suggest picking up your race packet before race day if at all possible. This will alleviate some of the lines the morning of the race. On race-day morning, runners can register at Key Estero Plaza (1661 Estero Blvd #7, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931) beginning at 7am. The race will start and finish from this general location.

This is a very popular day on Fort Myers Beach during a busy time. There is public and private parking available all within a few miles of Key Estero Plaza. This parking is first come first serve. Please plan to arrive early. The bridge closes at 9am and the closer to that time, the more traffic there is to get on to the beach. One suggestion would be to have someone drop you off, then park on the other side (San Carlos Island) of the bridge. The bridge is closed until noon so if you would like to go home before the parade, this would be your best option.

Parade -Time
Runners and walkers are all welcome, however, we ask that you complete the race before the parade comes through the finish line area, shortly after 10am. At the 35 minute mark we will ask runners to shorten their race at the top of the bridge (This is slightly over one-mile.)

  1. Tom says:

Is this strictly a run, or can walkers participate as well?

  2. Doug says:

Any map of the race course?

    • Troy says:

Hi Doug. I’ve not seen a map, per se, but from my understanding it’s a simple out and back, starting on the Beach side in front of Estero Plaza, up over the bridge and back.

  3. Deb Stahl says:

Seriously, 10 year age groups and ……worse than that 60 and older.!!!

    • Troy says:

Hi Deb. I’m sorry but we’re just hired to do the timing and provide the results. The awards, number of awards, type of awards, age groups, etc. is entirely up to the people putting on the race, in this case, Cypress Lake High School Athletic Booster. If you scroll up from the comments (where you’re at now) you will see all of their contact information below the race description. They would be able to address your concerns. Thanks!

  4. Doug says:

How many have signed up so far

  5. Jeanne says:

Great Race! Glad CLHS brought a fun tradition back!!
